Celebrate Black History Month with your family by exploring our round-up of resources, educational tools, activities, books, and events designed for families with young children. Honor the contributions and icons within Black history while you explore the theme for 2022 on the importance of Black Health and Wellness.
1) The National Museum of African American History and Culture!
The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. Explore their roster of virtual events designed for children ages 4 and up with FREE registration, an easy guide for supplies, and event themes that spark creativity and connection.

Maya Angelou showed us that kindness and expressing gratitude are important parts of our everyday wellness! Learn more about this inspiring poet and create a rainbow collage craft as a reminder to “be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud” during this special Black History Month children’s program.
2) Research and coloring project from Here Wee Read!
Here Wee Read is a must-follow account for diverse and inclusive books, kid-friendly products, and family experiences from Charnaie Gordon. This coloring printable features an array of influential Black/Afro-Latino/a celebrities, athletes, politicians, artists, and activists. Each day during the month of February (or any time of the year), color in a person or an object until the whole poster is complete.
The idea is to either read a book, do research, or work on a craft project about each person featured in the list. By the end of the challenge, you should be more familiar with each person and their achievements. Learn more here.

4) The King Center's virtual Students With King Reading Corner!
The Students With King Reading Corner is a youth initiative designed to support reading literacy in schools. One of the primary goals of the Reading Corner is to share quality subject-related readings that expose students to authors and books that directly or indirectly cover social justice issues and/or concepts related to the Beloved Community.
